A Name Among Seafaring Men - Wilhelm Grutter

A Name Among Seafaring Men: A history of the training ship 'General Botha' by Wilhelm Grutter is the history of South African Training Ship General Botha and the young men who trained in her and then went on to make the name well known in the international maritime world. The ship was named in memory of the first premier of the Union of South Africa, General Louis Botha, who had died in 1919 and the first intake of “Bothie Boys” was in 1922. The various shore-based training establishments that followed the demise of the vessel in 1947 retained the original name and traditions.
