Kitty and the Prince - Ben Shephard

Kitty and the Prince by Ben Shephard is the story of the doomed love affair between Kitty Jewell, the white daughter of a Cornish mining engineer and Prince Lobengula, a black man. He was a member of a travelling show called Savage South Africa comprising African natives and wild animals brought from South Africa for the entertainment of the British public in 1899. The affair was a heart-breaking love story which at the time caused a scandal and filled the newspapers with disgust.
